Scott bikes is an international brand that not only builds bikes but skis, running gear, and clothing and protection for motorsports.
Cyclists should know Scott through its sponsorship of the long-running, World Cup-dominating, Scott-SRAM mountain bike team of Nino Schurter and Kate Courtney. Racing is integral to their brand, though they use the insights gained there so everyday riders can up their performance. Also notable is Scott’s Contessa line, which designates women-specific bikes, where they tune the specs and adjust the colorways for the femmes.
Are Scott bikes any good?
Yes, Scott bikes are highly regarded for their quality, catering to various riding preferences and skill levels. Their reputation rests on innovation, seen in revolutionary designs like the aerodynamic Addict and the carbon Scale mountain bike. Unique technologies, such as the TwinLoc suspension system, enhance adaptability and efficiency across terrains. Additionally, Scott’s use of premium materials like carbon fiber and aluminum alloys ensures their bikes are strong, durable, and lightweight.
What’s the history of Scott bikes?
Scott Bikes originated in 1958 with Ed Scott's invention of the tapered aluminum ski pole in Sun Valley, Idaho, marking a significant advancement in skiing equipment and the inception of the Scott brand. Over the years, Scott diversified into a broad range of sporting goods, including entering the cycling market in the 1980s with the revolutionary aerodynamic handlebar. This innovation played a crucial role in Greg LeMond's 1989 Tour de France victory. Continuing its tradition of innovation, Scott introduced the first carbon mountain bike, the Endorphin, in 1995, which achieved legendary status through World Cup victories.
Scott Mountain Bikes
Scott emerged in the MTB market through handlebars and shocks, then staked its claim in 1995: a full-carbon monocoque MTB with elevated chainstays and vertical flex to create a pivot-free suspension design. Since then, they’ve expanded in all directions, from entry-level hardtails to World Cup-ready downhill race bikes.
Scott Spark
The Spark is Scott’s full-suspension, cross-country platform. They stick to carbon-fiber, and the same blend of carbon; the differences are in the builds. The current iteration features a hidden rear shock, stowed in the seat tube and accessed under the downtube. It reduces weight and lateral flex while giving more room for tires.
Scott Genius
Genius is how to describe the TwinLoc suspension system on Scott’s trail bike. It’s a handlebar-mounted remote with three settings downhill, traction control, and lockout. Each setting changes the geometry and travel of the rear shock to maximize efficiency for the moment. The Genius can also switch from 29” wheels to 27.5” with the flipping of chips.
Scott Road Bikes
Scott changed the road bike game in 2007 with the Addict, a 790g frame that could easily be turned into a 5.9kg bike. They’ve been pushing the light envelope ever since. On the other end of the spectrum is the Scott alloy Speedster, which uses aluminum to bring the cost down and accessibility up.
Scott Addict
The Addict ushered in the era of sub-800g road frames. Fifteen years in, they’ve added aerodynamic shapes to their svelte climber and adjusted the geometry to favor stability. The comfortable manners are great for all-day rides. For those who want a more aggressive ride, the Aero Road Foil is the ticket. Known for being remarkably comfortable for an aero bike, the Road Foil proved itself with a win at Paris-Roubaix.
Scott Plasma
Scott has been cutting edge with their Plasma for years. The shapes have been getting longer and cleaner. With the Plasma 5, they used on-bike storage to lower drag. With the Plasma 6, they’re hiding the storage systems within the frame.
Scott Gravel Bikes
Scott’s gravel offerings began with the Addict CX, a cyclocross-oriented Addict. They’ve been tweaking the geometry over the years, and recently decided to focus on gravel, which meant they increased tire clearance and BB drop. They also christened the Scott Speedster, a gravel rig with the same geometry as the Addict, just with an aluminum frame. *scroll right to view entire tableSpecs Comparison Table - Popular Scott Models Recently Sold on TPC
