Zipp carbon wheels are known in the industry as some of the strongest and most lightweight wheels available. The Zipp 303s, 404 Firecrest, 353 NSW, and 454 NSW models are all constructed with full carbon rims that offer superior aerodynamic performance. Each wheel is designed to be stiffer and lighter than other leading competitors.

Are Zipp wheels worth it? What makes them special?

Zipp wheels aren't cheap, but for some riders, they're worth the investment. What sets them apart is a combo of cutting-edge tech, innovation, and a focus on real-world performance that you can feel on the road.

One of the coolest things about Zipp's approach is how they're challenging conventional wisdom. Remember when we all thought rock-hard tire pressures were the way to go? Zipp's latest wheels turn that idea on its head, recommending surprisingly low pressures that, counterintuitively, actually make you faster and more comfortable. It's the kind of thing that might sound like marketing hype, but spend a few miles on these wheels and you'll feel the difference.

Now, are they worth the premium price? If you're a casual weekend warrior, maybe not. But if you're serious about your riding, whether you're racing or just aiming for personal bests, Zipp wheels offer performance advantages that are hard to match. The 404 Firecrest, for instance, hits a sweet spot of aerodynamics, weight, and price that makes it a go-to choice for many riders.

What really seals the deal for many is Zipp's attention to detail. From their unique dimpled surfaces for better aerodynamics to the thoughtfully engineered hubs, these wheels are packed with features that show Zipp isn't just resting on its laurels. Plus, with options ranging from the ultra-premium 353 NSW to the more affordable (but still high-performing) 404 Firecrest, there's likely a Zipp wheel that fits your needs and budget.

How does Zipp compare to ENVE?

When it comes to high-end carbon wheels, Zipp and ENVE are often the two heavyweights duking it out for the top spot. Both brands make killer wheels, but they've got their own unique approaches.

Introducing The 1ZERO HiTOP

Riding is believing with the Zipp 1ZERO HiTOP SW MTB wheelset. With modern cross-country courses becoming rougher and more challenging, trail compliance is vital. No longer is it good enough for an XC wheelset to be stiff above all else. Instead, a wheelset should feel alive. The 1ZERO HiTOP SW carbon rim's design complies with the terrain thanks to Zipp's proprietary HiTOP Technology for carbon layup. The result is a lightweight XC wheel that carries speed through all sections of the trail, rocks, roots, and ruts with the durability required for a trail bike with up to 130mm of travel.

When purchasing Zipp wheels, it’s important to understand the difference between the Firecrest and NSW line of wheels.
Firecrest wheels use an external nipple bed design with Sapim CX-Sprint spokes; this allows for more even spoke tension across both sides of the wheel while making it easier to true later down the line should you need it done. Firecrest products deliver the best performance without breaking the bank.

NSW stands for Nest Speed Weaponry. NSW wheel models use a different spoke and rim pattern that distributes spoke tension differently through each side of the wheel than on traditional spoke patterns. These upgrades are the result of the most advanced Zipp halo technologies, bringing prototype products to market for the best wheelsets possible.

Zipp does not only cater to road bikes, however. The Zipp 3Zero Moto mountain bike wheelset features "ankle compliance". This allows the carbon rim to flex during intense corning, increasing traction and compliance. In a race, this feature can save you valuable seconds when turning the corner. Zipp 3Zero Moto wheels also come standard with the ZM2 hubset. The hub features 12 pawls and 132 points of engagement, perfect for boosting up climbing or grinding out sprints.

If you want top-of-the-line racing performance paired with superior aerodynamics, look no further than Zipp carbon wheels from The Pro's Closet! We have the widest selection of makes and models, so you can find the perfect wheelset for you and your bike today!
