Bianchi Bikes FAQs
What is Countervail technology, and which Bianchi road bikes feature it?
Countervail (CV) is a proprietary technology developed by Bianchi in collaboration with Materials Sciences Corporation. It involves a viscoelastic resin that's embedded within the carbon fiber layup of the frame. This resin is designed to cancel out road vibrations, thereby reducing rider fatigue, increasing control, and improving overall comfort without compromising stiffness or adding weight.
Countervail technology is featured on several of Bianchi's high-end road bikes, including:
- Specialissima: Bianchi's lightweight climbing bike
- Oltre XR4: The top-tier aero road bike, available in both rim and disc brake versions
- Oltre XR3: The more affordable aero road bike, also available with rim or disc brakes
- Infinito CV: Bianchi's endurance road bike, offered in both rim and disc brake configurations
What are the main differences between Bianchi's Oltre, Aria, and Sempre Pro road bike models?
Bianchi's Oltre, Aria, and Sempre Pro models are all performance-oriented road bikes but with some key differences:
- Oltre (XR4 and XR3):
- Bianchi's top-tier aero road bikes, designed for maximum speed and efficiency
- Feature Countervail technology for vibration dampening and improved ride quality
- Aggressive race geometry for a low, aero riding position
- XR4 is lighter and more aerodynamic than the XR3
- Available in both rim and disc brake versions
- Aria:
- An aero road bike with a more accessible price point than the Oltre series
- Shares some aero features with the Oltre, such as an aero seatpost and integrated fork
- Does not include Countervail technology
- Slightly heavier than the Oltre frames but still lightweight at a claimed 1,100g
- Available in both rim and disc brake versions
- Sempre Pro:
- An all-around race bike with a focus on stiffness and responsiveness
- Features a race geometry but with a slightly higher front end than the Oltre
- Oversized tubing and a tapered head tube contribute to its stiffness
- More affordable than the Oltre and Aria but still offers high-performance ride quality
- Rim brake only
The Oltre series is Bianchi's flagship aero road bikes, while the Aria have similar aero benefits at a lower price point. The Sempre Pro is a more traditional all-around race bike that emphasizes stiffness and responsiveness.
