Meet Matt

What's your proudest cycling accomplishment?
I podiumed Syllamo’s Revenge (now defunct) after 7 or 8 years of trying. This was the first “hard” mountain bike race I ever attempted, so it felt good to bring home one of the big engraved rock trophies.

What type of riding do you do?
Mountain and gravel.

What bikes are on your current wish list?
I own 8 bikes. The N+1 saying has a limit, and for me it is 8. I truly have everything from gravel, fat bike, a dirt jumper, and an assortment of mountain bikes. What more could I need?

Do you have a bike you let go of that you wish you’d kept?

I sold my Specialized Crave SL - this was a bike that I really came into my own as a bike racer on. I actually bought a lightly used frame/fork last year and rebuilt it. Given how much mountain bikes have changed, it is more of a flat bar gravel bike than a modern mountain bike, but it is great.

Do you prefer stock builds or putting together your own build from the frame up?

Frame up for me, I am picky. My favorite build is my Scott Spark because it is a true XC race bike, and it is fun to ride. I own a trail bike, a few single speeds, but nothing is faster than a dual lockout XC bike on the correct terrain.

Frame material of choice?

Carbon.

Are you a data geek?

I own three power meters . . . you decide.

Go-To during ride nutrition/snack?

Any drink mix, Welch’s Fruit Snacks (the first ingredient is fruit!), and cookies of some type.

Where’s home?

Salida, Colorado.

Would you rather watch the Tour De France or Red Bull Rampage?

The Tour over Rampage. I feel Rampage has too much carnage/risk on the line. My all time favorite would be World Cup XC racing, both men and women.

What's on your watch list?
Anytime Danny MacAskill releases a series on how the video was made, I really enjoy watching the process portion of what goes into his videos.

Morning rides or evening rides?

Depends on the time of year - trainer rides are ALWAYS before work, riding outdoors is dependent on temperature and schedule.
