Fox leads the pack when it comes to mountain bike suspension. In 2001 they introduced the 32 stanchion fork when most were still using 30, a groundbreaking first.
Since then, Fox hasn't stopped designing high-performance forks and shocks that navigate every type of terrain, rider, and win World Cup races.
Fox Mountain Bike Forks
Fox mountain bike forks come in various amounts of travel, stanchion widths, and dampers to suit every bike and rider, from XC racers to World Cup DH winners. They are at the forefront of suspension and make an exceptionally smooth, beefy, and performance-loaded upgrade to your bike.
Fox 34
The Fox 34 is one of the most popular trail forks out there. It meets the demands of most rides using stiff but smooth 34mm stanchions and is more tunable than ever with multiple damper options. It’s the perfect blend for the do-it-all riders ranging from 100mm to 140mm travel.
Fox 36
The Fox 36 takes it up a notch at 150mm to 160mm travel with 36mm stanchions giving you more stiffness and performance on your all-mountain rides. You have your choice of the fully feature-loaded Fox 36 Performance Elite, or add some smooth bling with the Kashima coated Fox 36 Factory.
Fox 38
The Fox 38 goes big with 160mm to 180mm of travel and 38mm stanchions, so you can charge hard and fast whether it's against the clock or hucking big freeride lines. This rugged single crown fork packs a hefty stiffness-to-weight ratio ideal for enduro riders looking to maximize control and reliability. The new elliptical steerer shape and lower leg design shaved weight without compromising stiffness.
Fox Rear Shocks
Fox Rear Shocks are tunable, efficient, and responsive. From short travel XC uphill sprints to big travel and hits, Fox continues to govern the design and performance of some of the best shocks on the market.
Fox Float DPS
The Fox Float DPS comes in a small, lightweight package but offers great efficiency, compliance, and performance. Adjustments like the three-position DPS damper and dual-piston valve allow you to soak up chatter and big hits, all while staying in the efficient fast lane for pedaling.
Fox Float X2
The Fox Float X2 is designed for gravity lovers who still appreciate weight savings. With a coil-like feel, supreme tunability, and damping, this shock is made to give you control and performance no matter the terrain.
Fox DHX2
The Fox DHX2 keeps you in control when things get steep and rowdy. This plush coil shock keeps your rear wheel on the ground for unrivaled traction and speed. Progressive damping and a huge overall tuning range give you ultimate control and adjustability to match any trail.
Fox Transfer Dropper
The Fox Transfer Dropper is durable, light, and supremely reliable. There's one for every rider, offered in 100mm to 200mm travel options. A favorite feature is the lever modulation making it easy to adjust return speed and minor height adjustments. If you’re looking for “the one” dropper, look no further.
2023 Fox DHX2 Factory Rear Shock Review - A TPC Quick-Take, The Coil That Shred
The Fox DHX2 is a high-performance coil shock designed for enduro and downhill rigs. After months of thrashing it on my enduro bike, we’re stoked to share my thoughts on this plush beast.
Ride Feel
- Small Bump Sensitivity: Off the charts! It's like riding on a magic carpet through rock gardens.
- Mid-Stroke Support: Surprisingly good for a coil. Offers a supportive platform for pumping and berms.
- Bottom-Out Resistance: The beefy MCU bumper handles big hits and hucks to flat like a champ.
Adjustability
- High and low-speed compression
- High and low-speed rebound
- Two-position climb switch
- Pro tip: I found running things pretty open worked best, but don't be afraid to experiment.
Installation and Setup
- Make sure you've got the right mounting hardware
- Spring rate selection is crucial - I went stiffer than Fox recommended
- Might need to purchase additional spacers depending on your frame
Pros
- Insane small bump sensitivity
- Great mid-stroke support
- Excellent bottom-out resistance
- Highly adjustable
- Climb switch for efficient pedaling
Cons
- Pricey
- Might be overkill for lightweight riders or XC enthusiasts
- Requires some experimentation to find the perfect setup
Who It's For
- Enduro and downhill riders pushing their limits
- Heavier riders looking for better suspension performance
- Anyone willing to invest in top-tier suspension
Bottom Line
The Fox DHX2 is a game-changer for aggressive riders. It gives you unparalleled plushness without sacrificing support or big-hit capability. While it's an investment, the performance boost is real. If you're serious about shredding and want your enduro or DH rig to perform at its peak, the DHX2 is worth every penny. Just be prepared for your riding buddies to wonder why you're suddenly dropping them on every descent.
