Specialized Bikes

Specialized is not just a brand, it's a storied pillar in the cycling community. It began in 1974 with Mike Sinyard's passion, which translated into importing top-notch cycling components, and from there, it has evolved into a company synonymous with innovation and excellence in the cycling world. Specialized Bicycles emerged as a pioneer, committed to enhancing every cyclist's experience through cutting-edge design and technology.

Specialized has multiple models of mountain, gravel, electric, and road bikes, each tailored to conquer every terrain while meeting the needs of all cycling enthusiasts. From the adrenaline-pumping descent of a single-track to the hairpin turns of an alpine ascent, Specialized offers an array of bicycles for maximum performance.

Specialized Updates, 2024

(section updated regularly)

  • In July, 2024, Specialized announced the S-Works Tarmac SL8 - Forward 50 LTD, a limited edition model with only 250 units available worldwide, boasting tech advancements in aerodynamics, weight (15% light than its predecessor), stiffness (33% improvement in stiffness-to-weight ratio over the SL7, combined with 6% more compliance), amongst others.
    • What we think - really neat stuff, with it making an appearance at the Paris Olympics and all but it’s unobtainium, we’ll wait for the tech to trickle through to their mainline models.
  • August, 2024, Specialized unveiled an updated S-Works Crux, claiming it's "the lightest gravel bike in the world." On paper the bike features the new SRAM Red XPLR AXS 13-speed groupset, which reduced overall weight by 102 grams, it's the first carbon frame Crux to utilize a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH). The frame is mostly unchanged from the previous model, maintaining the 725g 12r carbon frame and 47mm (700c) or 2.1in (650b) tire clearance. The bike is accompanied by a ~$200 price drop to the previous model (our estimate).
    • What we think - not groundbreaking but it illustrates the industry's continued focus on weight reduction, component integration, and standardization. It’ll be interesting to see how competitors respond and whether these features will influence more accessible models, the adoption of UDH in particular is a positive step towards industry-wide compatibility.

Over time, S-Works innovations become incorporated into everyday products to make them lighter, stronger, stiffer, and more aero.

Encompassing commuting with the Turbo Como, touring with the Turbo Vado, road riding with the Turbo Creo, cross-country with the Turbo Tero, trail with the Turbo Levo, and enduro models (the Turbo Kenevo), with several motors and control brains, there is a bike and level of boost for just about everyone. Specialized designed the motors, batteries, controllers, and frames; they had a vision for creating everything to best make that vision become reality.

How much is a used Specialized bike worth?

The value of a used Specialized bike varies based on the model, year, condition, components, market trends, frame material, and size.

  • Brand Reputation & Demand: Specialized bikes retain value due to high demand and brand recognition.
  • Age & Condition: Newer, well-maintained bikes always fetch higher prices.
  • Components & Technology: Modern components hold value better.
  • Frame Material: Titanium and high-end carbon/steel frames depreciate slower than aluminum.
  • Size & Availability: Common sizes (S, M, L) retain more value over less-common sizes such as (XS, XL, XXL)

From 2021 to 2023, used Specialized bikes retained 82% of their original value on average, showcasing better value retention when compared to similar brands.

What does Specialzed’s product range and hierarchy include?

Specialized’s bike range encompasses road bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes, active & fitness bikes, and kids bikes.

Popular mountain bike models include the Stumpjumper, Enduro, Fuse, Chisel and Epic. E-bikes include their Turbo Levo, Turbo Kenevo, and Turbo Como. Some fitness-geared bikes include the Sirrus, Turbo Tero and Roll.
