Scott Moninger’s 1983 Raleigh Ti 753
"I purchased this Raleigh frame/fork in 1983 from Michael’s Cyclery in Ames, Iowa. I built it up with full campy record/ super record. Original set up was 2X5 with Jr gears being 52 or 53X15t. So in the rear was 15x19 for crits, 15X21 for road races. (Frame is/was a stock 53 or 54cm) Price was $575-600.
I raced this rig for the remainder of my junior career, which ended at the end of 1984. After that I sold the frame/fork to a friend of mine who years later sold it back to my father and then I traded him something more current to get the Raleigh back. I did the restoration myself not long after I retired from pro racing in 2007.
I won numerous Kansas State Jr championships on the Raleigh and many other local/regional events around the midwest. Most notably was the Fayetteville stage race (now known as the Joe Martin Stage Race) which in 1984 was a Jr World Long Team Camp qualifier. After winning the overall title, I was selected to take part in the Jr World Selection Camp in Colorado Springs later that summer. This was my first exposure to road racing in Colorado, and is the reason I spent my entire career here in Colorado."
